The RESEARCH STATION in MIKOŁAJKI, belonging to the Nencki Institute of Experimental Biology, Polish Academy of Sciences, more than 60 years, provides opportunities to make a study and research for scientists of various specialties (both environmental and laboratory) from domestic and foreign scientific institutions offering access to laboratories and their equipment as well as accommodation in a year-round guest rooms.
At the Station also are organizing educational events: workshops, training, lessons, shows, festivals, theme days, etc. popularize the biodiversity of the Masurian Lakes and Piska Forest and wider, modern biology, addressing to the local community, especially to students of primary and secondary schools.
The Station is located in the center of the Masurian Lakes District, on a western shore of Mikolajskie Lake, with a wide access to the lake and its own small marina. It is surrounded by forests and in a distance of a few miles from the Station you can meet an amazing array of aquatic ecosystems: small rivers and streams, dystrophic lakes, small, mid-forest and meadow reservoirs and natural and artificial ponds. This unique location conducive to multidisciplinary research both environmental (field) and experimental (laboratory and aquarium) and long-term environmental monitoring of the whole system of the Masurian Lakes District. Rich laboratories infrastructure, field sampling equipment, experienced and friendly staff – all this makes the research conducted here results in numerous publications.

Recently (2015 and 2016), the Station was extensively renovated (in particular its lab-conference part), and the improvement of working conditions and accommodation increased the interest of scientists in residence and work at the Station.
