On May 18th , 2019, Bio-Film 2019 – the show of polar films by Włodzimierz Puchalski – took place at the Nencki Institute Research Station in Mikołajki. It was a journey in time and space. Five archival short films after digital reconstruction for some time moved us to 1957 and 1958 to the Norwegian archipelago Svalbard, to the Arctic tundra, to the mountains and valleys of Spitsbergen, to the island of feathers and down. These films were made during the Polish Polar Expedition to Spitsbergen led by Stanisław Siedlecki, organized as part of the International Geophysical Year. The show was co-financed by the Nencki Institute and the Polish Academy of Sciences under funds for disseminating science.
