On September 17th, 2017 on the occasion of the 100th Anniversary of the Nencki Institute, the ART AND SCIENCE Symposium entitled: “Biological imaging: inspirations of the invisible world” took place at the Hydrobiological Station in Mikolajki. It was a pioneering attempt to combine and find a common language between scientist (with rational perception of the world) and the art-painters (with emotional and visual perception of the same problems of the world), and the attempt to find of artistic inspiration based on high-tech imaging of biological structures (cells, tissues, organisms). The organizers of the Symposium, apart from the Nencki Institute PAS were: the Art Department of the University of Rzeszow and the Art Department of the University of Warmia and Mazury. On 5-11 September 2017, an Entomological Workshop “Insects World Around Us” was held at the Hydrobiological Station of the Nencki Institute in Mikolajki. Participants listened to the many interesting lectures: “One hundred years of the Nencki Institute, discovering of the secrets of the insects world“by prof. Ewa J. Godzińska from our Institute, “Dealing with the giant bee – grows and its behavior in Nepal” – by prof. Jerzy Woyke from SGGW, a world-famous bee specialist, and “Insects on moving cages: actors and naturists” by assoc. prof. M. Kozłowski from SGGW. The workshops program also includes field activities (also night), laboratory, photographic, film and computer classes. On August 20th, 2017, in the frame of the meetings entitled “Wildlife Travels” at the Hydrobiological Station in Mikołajki, Maciej Karpowicz, PhD from the University in Bialystok, talked about trips to the world’s coral reefs and the biodiversity of these unique and fabulously colorful marine ecosystems. On July 27th, 2017, an educational event titled “Brain on Vacations” was held at the Hydrobiological Station of the Nencki Institute in Mikolajki. It was already the third edition, as a continuation of “the Holiday Days of Brain”, organized by the Nencki Institute and the Hydrobiological Station in Mikolajki. The show included the neuroanatomical exhibition “Explore the inside of the brain“, showing the brain from the outside and from the inside, games and tests for children and adults prepared by PhD students and staff of the Nencki Institute. On June 12 and 13, 2017, the Hydrobiological Summer Workshops for school was held at the Station. We organized it in Mikołajki twice per year (summer and winter edition) together with the Foundation for the Protection of Great Masurian Lakes from Giżycko.
