April 30th, 2016 we hosted at the Hydrobiological Station a famous traveler, photographer, blogger, speaker at many travelers festivals (Kolosy) – PIOTR HORZELA, who traveled by various means of transportation through the all climatic zones on several continents. The last days of February were full of significant cinematographic events worldwide: the first one was The Nature Film Festival BIO-FILM 2016, which took place on the big screen in our renovated Conference Hall (green carpet), second – was 88th Oscar 2016 The Academy Awards in Los Angeles (red carpet). The first workshops for teachers of biology took place at the Station on Saturday, January 23th. Despite of the cold weather (-14 deg. C) came to us 25 people (from Pisz, Ryn, Mrągowo, Ruciane, Woźnice and Mikołajki), for which we have prepared three lectures in the field of neurobiology and one on polar ecology. The workshop was also an initiating event in the renovated Conference Hall. On December 20th and 21st we hosted the managment of Nencki Instituteon on the Station, which saw the effects of renovation and modernization, carried out on the Station for several months. We are very sorry to inform you of the death of Janusz Kornatowski PhD who died on December 8th, 2015. He was a long time an employee of Hydrobiological Station, specialist of submerged plants ecology. In 1989 he became a mayor of Mikołajki. He was also a hunter and beekeeper, actively supporting the development of beekeeping in the Mazury. Funeral services were held on December 12 in the local church. R.I.P. … Czytaj dalej
The zooplanktons workshop for schoolchildren took place at the Station on December 7th and 8th. We organized them together with the Foundation for the Preservation of the Great Masurian Lakes in Giżycko. The first day we hosted students from high school in Pisz and the School of Forestry in Ruciane-Nida, and the second – from primary schools in Pisz and in Hejdyk. An installation of internet relay devices on the main building and its interior is completed, and today the entire station is within range of a wireless network. You can easily connect to the network via WiFi in every room and in all bungalows. (TJ)… Czytaj dalej
November 2015. The renovation of labs in the main building is complete. Conference Hall (for 70 persons) and Seminar Room (for 20 people) were also generally refurbished. This month it is planned to complete the work to equip these halls with modern audio-visual equipment, allowing to conduct presentations, demonstrations, film screenings on the higher quality level. The oldest building of the former “Kurhaus” and the building of the conference hall received a new façade on the west side. It takes renovation of the so-called “Laundry” building, which will include rooms designed for the disabled. Renovated is also building of hydrophone with the entire water system. In the port they erected a mast that will soon provide high-speed Internet signal transmission by radio that on, the wireless network will cover the whole territory of the Station. (TJ)… Czytaj dalej
On 6th June, 2015, at the Nencki Institute Hydrobiological Station in Mikolajki the naming ceremony of Wanda and Andrzej Szczepańscy Avenue was held. Professor Andrzej Szczepański and Wanda Szczepańska PhD were the organizers of the Hydrobiological Station. They came to Mikołajki in September 1951 and devoted their lives to the research of Mazurian lakes. Czytaj dalej
Paweł Jarosław Mazurkiewicz, MSc, a student of the Inter-faculty Interdisciplinary Doctoral Studies in Mathematics and Natural Sciences at theUniversity of Warsaw (MISDoMP UW), carrying out an interdiciplinary PhD thesis in the Laboratory of Ethology of the Department of Neurophysiology of the Nencki Institute (head prof. Ewa J. Godzińska) and in the Department of Animal Physiology of the Faculty of Biology of the University of Warsaw, became one of the 11 laureates of the 3rd edition of the competition of the Foundation for Polish Science organized as part of the programme SKILLS – eNgage.
