The Nencki Institute printed a set of 10 postcards with photographs by Lukasz Bozycki – winner of the prestigious nature photography competition organized by the Natural History Museum and BBC – a PhD student of the Laboratory of Lipids Biochemistry. All artistic photos have been taken at the area of the station. On June 5th and 6th, at the Station we hosted the Direction of the Nencki Institute (prof. Adam Szewczyk, prof. Hanna Fabczak and Anna Jachner-Miśkiewicz PhD). They met with the progress and results of the renovations work carried out on the Station. On the May 30th the conference “Krutynia – river of the cultures” organized by Mazury Landscape Park in collaboration with the Department of Natural and Cultural Heritage of the University of Warmia and Mazury in Olsztyn was held in Krutynia. The conference began with a lecture by Tomasz Janecki PhD (Hydrobiological Station – Mikolajki) on Mazurian zooplankton “Stray in the depths of the lake”. Stanislaw Czachorowski, PhD answered the question “Do some unusual Trichoptera lives in the Masurian Landscape Park?”, Hanna Ciecierska, PhD – “Do Mazurian lakes need plants?” and about “Mushrooms of Mazurian Landscape Park” told us Grzegorz Fiedorowicz PhD. In the historical and cultural part we listened to the following lectures: “Nature and culture. “Education picnic on the water” was held at the Hydrobiological Station on Saturday (7th May) which was organized jointly with the Masurian Landscape Park. Our guests including children and young people could learn the history of the Station in Mikolajki, see stations laboratories and try to work as a hydrobiologist (sampling, measurements of water parameters), learn to recognize species of water (and not only) insects, look through the microscope inside of a water drop, got to know the natural, historical and cultural values of Mazurian Landscape Park, and admire wildlife photos by Waldemar Bzura (TJ).
